Continuing the Mexico-US guest worker discussion
Hello Team Amigo and Team Enemigo!
I was very excited and happy to see how engaged you all were in the debate/discussion. Since we spent most of our time debating the topic, I thought you might like to discuss it further here on the blog. You know how much I love to blog!
So, what do you personally think about granting the status of "guest worker" to some of the undocumented workers from Mexico? Do you think it is a good idea? Why or Why not?
One issue we did not bring up is the fact that Two-thirds of undocumented immigrants' children are U.S. citizens. Read more about it here.
If you want to see more on some of the issues that the debate encompassed....
Support for Arguments IN FAVOR OF guest worker visas might include:
1. A CNN report on what happens to some Mexicans who try to enter illeagally.
2. The movie A Day without a Mexican which is a satirical look at what would happen if all the Mexicans left California. You can watch the trailer here.
Support for Arguments AGAINST guest worker visas might include:
1. As you know, Lou Dobbs, from CNN, often provides counter-arguments to the idea of the guest worker visa. You can watch him debate the issue here, with Jorge Ramos from Univision.
2. Read the article about Senator Frist, who opposes the guest worker program.

I think the legalization of Mexicans it is a big issue that should be analized very carefully, because it has been creating a lot of controversies.
In my point of view, if Mexicans get their rights in America, it will stimulate more people to come to America and it will never end, otherwise I think the economy in America collapse without them, because they are a great population that contribute for U.S development. So, it is really difficult to be just one side
According to last discussion, i agree with Fabiana that we should examine this problem carefully. And, we have to think about what will be happen in the next future because this is the serious issue which directly affect to the economy, living condition, education and sort of things. In my opinion, i think U.S government should be postponed the guest worker visas for a while then find the good good way to compromise each other. One more thing is I really want Maxico's government takes the responsibilty about this kind of thing too.
what do you guys think about that?
When I think about this issue, I realized that there are many things that we have to think very carefuly. First of all, How big the illigal Mexican population is. Secound of all, many states and companies are rely on them. third of all, the United States immigration systems. Finally, Mexican government has big issue with their economical, educational, and social issue.
Thoes issues are intertwine very complicatedly. Therefore, I don't think that the Guest Worker Program will be a solution. It is not simple issue. However, I think that the Guest Worker Program can be one of the aspects of solutions. Basically The United States government and the Mexican government have to cooperate in order to solve this problem, and at the same time, the United states government should change immigration systems to control all immigrants, moreover, the United states government have to change social security system, medical insurance system, labor union system and so on in order that poor people are treated equally. it is not too much to say that this issue is one of the aspects of darkness in the U.S sociaty.
In conclusion, this issue will not be solved only send back all Mexicans to their country. It will happen same thing soon. Therefore, both government must change these things overall.
worker" to some of the undocumented workers from Mexico? Do you think it is a good idea? Why or Why not?
I kind of agree with the guest worker program. however, i belive that this is a topic that should be discused long time ago. i do not understand why some people in the US are not standing Mexican dispite the fact that they have supported this country and economy for years and years to come. And look what do they get in return? nothing but critics and unsupportanation. I like those people to open their eyes but before that i want them to open their heart to accept Mexican it is next door is that how nighbour should act? Viva La MEHICO
